Baltic News Service ESTONIA: Estonian Parliament Committee Proposes to Set Up AIDS Commission 27 September 2004 Responding to concerns that Estonia has underestimated the threat of AIDS and lacks a clear strategy for fighting it, an ad hoc committee of Parliament has called for the creation of an AIDS commission. This new body, comprising representatives of the government and volunteer and youth groups, will be charged with coordinating prevention efforts and drafting a state prevention strategy in line with existing efforts. In coming years, said the committee's report, Estonia may face a situation in which half of those diagnosed with HIV require treatment; thus, the state should develop a projection of the demand for and costs of treatment.
